It’s hard to picture a Spring Summer runway minus the generous sprinkling of beige but this time, this whispering tone was seen dominating most of the collections. Burberry under Riccardo Tisci saw a beige-heavy line up of trench coats, jackets, trousers and skirts, Tibi presented a sand-hued pantsuit and a slew of camel blazers. Beige and its subtle variations also eclipsed the runways of brands like Jil Sander, Ermano Scervino, Tom Ford, and Max Mara.

Stylist Aastha Sharma opines that this season-less tone lends itself to myriad styling options. “You can layer it with any colour. It adds an element of smartness to any look. If it’s not a fully formal ensemble, it adds that formal touch and also complements most skin tones. Also, it catalyses that day-to-night transition. For day go head-to-toe beige and for evening, break it with a bold lipstick and coloured trousers. Besides, it’s a good alternative to the stark white. It makes you look tall and the likes of Kim Kardashian West swear by its transformative appeal,” says Aastha.

PICK THE RIGHT HUE OF BEIGE

Nude on nude, camel on camel has been the fashion story this season but one’s got to be careful about picking its right gradient. Stylist Eshaa Amiin says, “Hold the fabric against your face and see if it suits you. Or team camel with black or tan with black which always works for most skin tones. Beige gives you scope of fun with accessories. I’d suggest mix different shades of nudes. However, the hue of the shoe has to  complement one of the nudes which you choose in your ensemble.”

A CANVAS FOR EMBROIDERIES

From the Indian bridal couture standpoint too, the skin colour palette lends itself stunningly. Stylist Divyak D’Souza observes, “In the Indian festive space, the skin colour palette is back in a big way and lends itself as a great canvas for embroidery and gotta patti. Designers like Anju Modi and Shantanu and Nikhil have toyed with brocade textures on beige which has worked beautifully in local space.”
