New materials, innovations in telling time, novelty in movements, solar power... Baselworld 2014 served up a feast of all that’s new in timepieces

Aluminium
Calvin Klein
This year Calvin Klein’s timepieces are offered with an aluminum case paired with either a silver, black, orange, blue or green bezel. Each watch is accented with coordinating superluminova hands and a white, black, blue or orange silicone strap, and is finished with a Calvin Klein icon at 12 o’clock. The dial is white, black and silver.

Tissot
T Race-Touch Aluminium
This timepiece shares the passion for fast motorsports, which further inspires their style. The case comes in four colours—blue, green, orange and black. The aluminium touch adds to the sporty look. The watch has 11 functions available at the touch of a finger. It is light in weight, making it perfect sportswatch.

Embroidery
Chanel
Mademoiselle Privé
This timepiece comes in 18-carat white gold, set with 642 diamonds. The dial is embroidered with a camellia motif, with coloured silk thread using the needlepoint painting technique. With a self-winding mechanical movement, the watch has a 42- hour power reserve and a black satin strap. The clasp has a folding buckle in 18-carat white gold with 80 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Peacock Feathers
Corum
The design is a tribute to the 1970s timepieces. The 18-carat red gold case of this watch comes in a finely wrought 39 mm diameter. The dials are preciously set with peacock feathers and on one model the feathers are framed by 120 round-cut diamonds. The feathers are sorted, selected for their stability, density and finesse, cleaned, stabilised with steam and hand cut. It has a power reserve of 42 hours.

Silver Alloy
Hermes
Nantucket

The slender and graceful Nantucket watch wraps its elegant lines smoothly around the wrist, highlighting the shimmering reflections and distinctive radiance of the Silver alloy now replacing its initial 925 silver. The silver case comes with a setting of 56 diamonds. The dial is opaline silver and its case is inspired by an anchor-chain link, which is moored to the wrist by interchangeable leather straps underscoring the precious nature of this creation.

Solar Power
Seiko
Astron GPS Solar Chronograph
Featuring a titanium case with super-hard coating, white dial and faceted ceramic bezel, it is both recognisably Astron and yet distinctively new. Using just the power of light, it connects to the GPS network and tells time with atomic clock precision, adjusting at the touch of a button to every time zone on earth. Just 7,000 pieces will be made in this limited edition, each with its own serial number engraved on the case back. This edition will be available from September 2014.

Unbreakable
Victorinox Inox
Inox watches are a pledge of quality and steel. In addition to standard testing, Victorinox Swiss Army has put these timepieces through an intensive battery of 130 tests to demonstrate its exceptional resistance, among them 30 exclusively designed tests to certify Inox as a timepiece ‘made to last’. Inox can, for example, withstand a 10-meter drop onto a concrete surface, have a 64 tn tank drive over it, and resist two hours in a washing machine as well as a sandstorm. The case is a reinforced stainless steel. All versions are equipped with a Swiss made Ronda quartz movement. The 2014 collection is available with dial and strap colours in black, khaki green or navy blue.
