Five more Zika positive cases were detected in Jaipur on Tuesday that took ZVD toll to 130. However, 117 of them have recovered completely claimed the health department official. Meanwhile, health department teams continue to conduct mosquito containing activities, survey and sample collection in affected areas and as per officials there is no need to panic as situation is under control.

On Tuesday, fogging and anti-larvae activities were carried out in colonies of ward 81 and 82. The department appealed people to keep the doors of their residence, shops open and asked those with breathing difficulties to remain at bay during fogging activity. It is worth mentioning that most of the cases which have been reported are from Shastri Nagar area in Jaipur where fogging and other anti-larvae activities are being carried out to prevent the spread of the virus.

Health minister Kalicharan Saraf informed that, “Teams are regularly visiting houses in affected areas and so far more than 5 lakh mosquito breeding sights have been inspected by these teams during survey of more than 1.5 lakh houses. There is no need to panic as sufficient stock of medicines is maintained by the department. There are five crore tablets of paracetamol are in the stock across the state and six lakh tablets are available in Jaipur only.”

Meanwhile, from Monday fogging team have started using pyrethrum in other parts of the city but in Zika-affected areas, they are using cyphenothrin for better results. As per health department officials the team from centre has recommended new insecticide.

No Need To Panic

Dr Raman Sharma, senior professor at Sawai Man Singh Medical College said that there is no need to panic as no case of microcephaly (a rare neurological condition in which an infant’s head is significantly smaller due to the brain developing abnormally) has been reported in any Asian country so far. “ZVD has been reported in around 95 countries across the globe and only 2-3 cases of micrcephaly has been reported in South American countries. Asian Genome is different from western Genome so, in Jaipur, if Zika would affect pregnant women in first trimester of their pregnancy, would be a matter of research,” said Dr Sharma.
