The Five Year Law College at University of Rajasthan may discontinue its BA-LLB course from the coming session.
This comes in response to the show cause notice received by the institution by the Bar Council of India for running the college under Self Finance Scheme, and not on a regular basis, from past nine years.
The council had given an ultimatum to either start regular courses and recruit permanent staff or discontinue the course.
“There are full chances of the course to be discontinued. We can’t ask for the post until the government allows us to go into regular mode. We can’t then do recruitment until the posts are sanctioned. BCI is not supporting us when we are recruiting on per class basis, they want permanent faculty. We are not aware what will happen during the one year gap,”said SL Sharma, Director, 5-year Law college.
“Once we discontinue the course, there may be a gap of one year where teachers and students may interfere that they want to continue the course,” he added.
He further informed that this is not the first time a show cause notice has been issued.
“They have been issuing notice from time to time but we kept on relaxing by saying we are in the process with the government. Right now also we’re saying that. It’s been going on from past six months. We’re in constant touch with the government,” Sharma said.
Students have alleged that the college only had affiliation with BCI till 2015, however, Sharma said otherwise.
“The last review was done in year 2014-15, after which there was no inspection done. Without any inspection, BCI had released instructions to discontinue admissions from the year 2018-19 onwards. BCI was silent during the years after 2015. We are acting according to the instructions. BCI doesn’t do regular reviews, they are not willing to conduct inspections yearly,” the director informed.
He added that they will not be applying for review this year as they are aware that affiliation is not possible without permanent faculty.
No RULET this year
- Rajasthan University Law Entrance Test,on the basis of which students are given admission will not take place this year. Private colleges affiliated with the institution have been made aware of the same and have been asked to take admissions at their discretion.
- “They can take admissions on the basis of merit,” Direstor said.
- However,students currently studying in the institution are secured whether the course continues or not. They will be provided authentic degrees, Director SLSharma added.
