In a kind of reprieve to the business community, this Diwali the electricity connection provided to vyapaar mandals will be given at the normal rate in the category of non domestic category. Usually, the discom charges 1.5 times the normal rate under the said category.

Giving the information, managing director of Jaipur Discom, RG Gupta said that there was a demand from the side of traders to give the electricity on the normal rates during the extended festive season for decoration in markets. He further added that keeping this in mind, it has been decided to charge normal rate on temporary connections having capacity more than 25 KW from vyapaar mandals, JMC and JDA.

Notably, the tariff for non-domestic category starts from Rs7.55 per unit to Rs8.80 per unit and if the rates are one and half times more, it increases the financial burden of the traders. The traders are hoping that with normal rate of electricity, they will be in a position to decorate the markets with as much bulbs and lights as they want without worrying much about the electricity charges.

This year, Jaipur Discom has installed more than two dozen transformers in the city markets. This has been done so that the electricity load is evened out and the discom is able to supply continues and fault free electricity to the markets.

Normally a large number of people visit the markets to see the lighting and enjoy the festive decorations.
