The petrol and diesel price rise has affected all sections of the society. In past few days, there has been a constant rise in the fuel rates. On Tuesday, the rate of petrol in the city is Rs 79.66 per litre. Everybody is now expecting that in coming days, the rate of petrol may touch Rs 80 per litre.

The worst affected by the price hike are the public transportation services. With elections around the corner, the state-run transport companies may not increase the fare. However, each day with the increasing diesel price, Rajasthan Roadways is getting hit.

Sources informed that there is need of 3.5 lakh litres of fuel per day in Rajasthan Roadways. With the increase of Rs 1, the financial burden increases by Rs 3.5 lakhs. As such, now with the constant increase in price, the burden is continuously increasing.

However, since this is an election year, sources informed that till now there are no talks of the increase in fare yet. Roadways is already fighting to come out of its poor financial condition. The rates have been constantly on a rise since Karnataka polls got over. A week back, petrol rate was increased to Rs77.51 per litre. However, in just a week’s time, it has increased by Rs2/litre.

The state will be going to elections after 6 months and the rates are pinching the middle-class consumers the most.

‘Increased prices hitting middle-class the most’

The state will be going to elections after six months and the rates are pinching the middle-class consumers the most. “The price has been continuously increasing, it has spoiled my personal expenses bill in a big way, my petrol expenses have increased by Rs 2000 in a month,” said Ravi Sharma a professional. The rates have been constantly on a rise since Karnataka polls got over. A week back, petrol rate was increased to Rs77.51 per liter. However, in just a week’s time, it has increased by Rs2/liter. The worst affected by the price hike are the public transportation services.

Daily fluctuation in price hitting freight charges

Truckers have been seriously hit with the rise. Also, they are not able to re-negotiate the freight charges with their customers as the prices are increasing every day and nobody is getting the idea when and where the rates will finally stop. They said that if it’s announced that the rate will increase by a particular amount, they can renegotiate. The result is that currently, the clients have refused to pay the freight charge due to increased fuel price. “The rates of diesel are increasing every day, in last one year, Rs12/liter have increased and nobody is ready to increase the rates, the burden is on us, we have written to government many times to control the price,” said Inder Kumar Chaddha, president of Jaipur transport operators union.

Cab services take the brunt of hiked fuel prices

These services are also facing the after effect badly. While the impact of fuel price rise on the company is yet not known, the drivers of the cabs are claiming that the fuel rise is hitting their pockets badly. “The drivers are not able to pay the installments of the cabs and the fuel price is hitting our pockets, we will talk to companies about this,” said Yogesh Kuntal, president of Rajasthan Drivers Association. The cab drivers inform that they are dependent on the commission provided by the company and increased fuel price will affect their earning if the fares are not revised. However, increased fares may not go down well with the consumers.

Delivery boys to think over second attempt

The effect of increased fuel price is yet not felt by the consumers. However, the delivery boys have started feeling the heat of increased rates of fuel prices. There are now half a dozen companies which have started delivering food from restaurants across the city to the doorsteps of the consumers. While these companies pay a fixed amount per km on account of fuel consumption to the delivery boys, the increasing petrol price will soon offset the benefit these delivery guys are currently getting. Similar is the case with the delivery guys of parcel delivery companies. While their fuel expenses are covered up to a limit, in many cases, the delivery guy is not given the petrol expense if he has to make a second attempt to deliver.
