The Urban Development Department has relaxed the norms for warehousing and LPG godowns in urban areas. In a recent decision, the department has relaxed the minimum space required for warehousing projects from 1500 square meter to 500 square meter. The space criteria for go-downs of LPG cylinders has also been reduced from 1000 square meters to 500 square meter.

Relaxation has also been extended on the road width on which such activities can be permitted. Previously, the minimum road width on which warehousing activities could be approved was 24 meters, this has been reduced to 18 meters.

However, those seeking to establish such projects will also require the due clearances from other concerned departments. "Warehousing of several products can be effectively done in space much less than 1500 meters, thus to promote the warehousing facilities the decision has been taken," said a senior UDH officer.
