The Congress intends to aggressively raise the issue of farmers’  suicide as they gear up to take on the government during monsoon session scheduled to commence from September 5. On September 2, three days before the session, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rameshwar Dudi has scheduled a ‘Kisan Jagaran’ conference in Jaipur targeting participation of over 5,000 farmers’ representatives across the state. Dudi had previously as well raised the issue and under his leadership, the party MLAs even staged a sit in of 54 hours in the house last year. Now, the leader wants the government to bring a white paper on the farmers’ suicide during the session.

“Raje government announced loan waiver for farmers half heartedly and this is the reason why the sucides have continued to take place across the state. In Nagaur’s Kuchaman city a farmer recently hanged self when the bank forced him to pay the dues and threatened to attach his property. The party wants a white paper from the state government on the farmers suicides in the house. Hence, we have decided to organise Kisan Jagaran on September 2 in which thousands of farmers will gather at the residence of Dudi. He would be taking feedback from the farmers and raise their issues on the floor,” said a close associated with Dudi.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that Dudi has announced farmers conference at his own level and it is a not a party programme. Dudi’s associate, however, rejected it out-rightly. “It is not the first time that Dudi is raising farmers’ issues. Several times at his residence he has had held public hearings. In Kisan Jagaran senior party leaders including party MLAs, MPs will also take part,” he added.

Assembly Session

The 11th session of 14th Rajasthan assembly will commence from September 5. The session is likely to be one of shortest sessions spanning three-four days. It is the final session of the 14th legislative as post it, the state will go for assembly election that is slated in the year end.
