Both the major student organisations - Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students Organization of India (NSUI) - will face rebel candidates in the Rajasthan University Students Union (RUSU) elections to be held on August 31. On Saturday, in addition to the official candidates of ABVP and NSUI, rebel candidates also filed their nominations.
In the past two years, rebel candidates have spoiled the electoral equation of both student organisations. Last year, ABVP’s official candidate for the post of president Sanjay Machedi was defeated by its rebel Pawan Yadav by more than 2600 votes. In 2016, ABVP rebel Ankit Dhayal made the official candidate Akhilesh Pareek bit the dust as he was defeated by more than 5,000 votes.
This time also both ABVP and NSUI will face the rebels as they have filed papers as independent. They include NSUI’s Mahesh Samota, Vinod Jakhar, Dushyant Raj Chundawat and Uttam Chaudhary. ABVP’s Amit Kumar Badbadwal has filed papers as independent while Sandhya Suthar and Aditya Pratap Singh have filed nomination as independent for general secretary.
On Saturday, 18 nominations were filed for the post of president; 9 for vice-president; 12 for general secretary; 11 for joint secretary and 5 for the research representatives. ABVP’s all four candidates, including the candidate for president Rajpal Chaudhary, filed their nomination papers with the supporters.
