Rajasthan shooters take their game up in Khelo India

On Saturday, Shooter Manavditya Singh Rathore won gold medal in Under-21 men’s trap shooting championship, while shooter Manini Kaushik won the bronze medal in Under-21 air rifle category in 10 meters.

Rajasthan shooters have been aiming for medals in the ongoing Khelo India games in Pune city, and with quite spectacular results.

On Saturday, Shooter Manavditya Singh Rathore won gold medal in Under-21 men’s  trap shooting championship, while shooter Manini Kaushik won the bronze medal in Under-21 air rifle category in 10 meters.

There were 12 shooters in the trap event (men) and apart from Rathore, two more shooters of the state, Aman Ali Elahi and Vivaasn Kapoor, participated in the same event. Both the shooters are regularly seen practicing at the Jagatpura shooting range in Jaipur.  Aman Ali Elahi also made it to the final round but scored 14 points while Rathore who won gold medal scored 38 points. Silver medal was won by Bhawneesh Mendiratta from Haryana and Shardul Vihan from Uttar Pradesh won silver medal.

Meanwhile, Manini Kaushik scored 227 points in air rifle shooting and won the bronze. In this category, Mehuli Ghosh from Kolkata won the gold medal with 252.1 points  while Elavenil VA from Gujarat scored 248.8 points and won the silver.

Just a day before, in men’s U-17 air rifle,  Divyansh Singh Panwar of Rajasthan and Yashvardhan of the state took home silver and bronze medals, respectively. In shooting, Rajasthan is expecting more medals in coming days in various other events as in last few years a lot of effort has gone into training and setting up infrastructure in the shooting sport in state.

Its not only shooting in which the players of the state are performing well in Khelo India. In fact girls of the state are doing good in this championship. Kachnar Choudhary from the state has won bronze medal in Under-21 category of shotput, while in badminton in girls U-17 category in doubles, Rajasthan has won in the finals.

The Khelo India participants are competing in two categories, (Under 17) and (Under 21), this year. In its new form, the games, also allow students from colleges and Universities to compete.
