There has been a significant increase in the number of tourists coming to the state in last three years. In 2017, 475.27 lakh tourists came to Rajasthan which was a jump of 10.50% from the previous year. In 2016, 430.09 lakh tourists had come, while a year before in 2015, 366.63 lakh tourists had arrived in Rajasthan.
Of these 475.27 lakh tourists who came to the state in 2017, 16.10 lakh were foreign tourists, while the remaining 459.17 lakh were Indian tourists.This figure has also seen a jump in 2017 as in 2016 , the number of foreign tourists coming to the state was 15.14 lakh while in 2015 the number was 14.75 lakh.
As such it can be said that foreign tourists are getting attracted towards Rajasthan and are exploring various colors and traditions of the state.
Notably, maximum foreign tourists who came to Rajasthan were from France in 2017. A total of 2.02 lakh tourists out of this 16 lakh were from France followed by UK’s 1.56 lakh and USA’s 1.47 lakh tourists. Tourists from countries like Germany, Australia, Italy, Bangladesh, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Japan etc also came to Rajasthan during the year.
Buoyed by the increasing number of tourists each year, department of tourism has become more aggressive. It has focussed itself now to attract Indian tourists during the long weekends for a short stint in various parts of the state.The department is now preparing to host summer festival in Mount Abu between April 29 and 30. The event is being promoted as a short trip during the long weekend as April 29 and 30 fall on Sunday and Monday, with Monday being a government holiday for Buddha Purnima. April 28 is Saturday, which is also a holiday for large number of people. Moreover, the focus of promoting Rajasthan as a tourism destination is now through new concepts, and an aggressive campaign.
