Rajasthan polls 2018: Booth count up from 47,000 to 52,000

Rajasthan Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashwini Bhagat has requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to provide additional security forces for Rajasthan assembly elections scheduled later this year. The decision to go in for enhanced security cover comes in view of an increase in 5000 booths compared to the last polls in 2013.

A meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat was held in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss preparations for assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Chattisgarh.

Bhagat sharing preparations done so far requested the CIC to provide more security forces in light of the incraesed booths. “Compared to previous assembly election nearly 5000 booths have increased. As per our assessment the department has to set up 52000 booths while 47000 were operational in 2013. Hence, I have asked for more security,” Bhagat told dna.

He further said that any chance of fake electoral rolls draft prevails nowhere in Rajasthan. 

In Madhya Pradesh 60 lakhs fake voters, according to the Congress, were found registered and the matter is being investigated by the ECI.

RPCC chief Sachin Pilot had also expressed apprehensions over the list and issued directions to the party workers to scan and complain if any fake entry in the roll is found.

“I am sure there is no fake electoral drafts in Rajasthan and neither have I received any correspondence in this regard,” Bhagat added.
