When Congress president Rahul Gandhi introduced ‘Mera Booth Mera Gaurav’ (MBMG) to strengthen the party at booth level on the line of BJP, he would have never thought that it would turn into a battleground of aspirations of leaders who would fight and rough up each other exposing the harsh truths. In the latest edition of the MBMG held in Malviya Nagar assembly on Monday, the workers and leaders were found involved in a scuffle, exposing claims of a united Congress.

The chaos in the program began when Pradesh Congress Committee secretary KK Haritwal objected the presence of supporters of party vice-president Archana Sharma who wore a T-shirt printed with Sharma’s candidature for the assembly constituency. He argued why Sharma’s volunteers were allowed to enter in the venue while on the same ground of wearing T-shirts, Vijay Shankar Tiwari, RPCC member, and his supporters were not allowed in the similar program held in Civil Lines on Sunday.

“I was opposing double standards being adopted in the party and wanted to convey candidates who lost the election with a margin of 15,000-20,000 votes should not be considered. On this, there was chaos in the gathering,” said Haritwal. Sharma fought election from here and lost to Kalicharan Sarraf who is health minister in Raje cabinet. Sharma, however, refuted allegations of breaking any standard party mandated in organising such events. “The volunteers were the representatives of booths. If they will be not be allowed then who would attend the program. Everyone has the right to speak on this platform,” said Sharma.
