The Rajasthan High Court has issued a notice to the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and has summoned reply within two weeks regarding irregularities in parking at Ram Niwas Bagh.

A division bench of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice GR Moolchandani gave this order while hearing the PIL filed by one Ghanshyam Agarwal.

It was mentioned in the petition that in 2013, the arrangements were made to park the vehicles in Ram Niwas Bagh, after shutting down parking inside the Walled City. As promised, the residents residing in the Walled City were to get free bus facility from the parking lot.

The parking system worked fine for a few months, but now the situation has worsened. On behalf of the petitioner, a private firm from Mumbai conducted a survey about the parking in Ram Niwas Bagh.

Referring to the survey report by the petitioner, out of 48 CCTV cameras installed, only 6 cameras are working. Moreover, only one CDR is working out of 6. Out of the 8 monitors installed for seeing the live recording of CCTV, only one is in working condition at present.

Similarly, two fire alarms, out of three, are not functional, while only 8 of the 12 loudspeakers are working.

There are four fire pumps and three diesel generator sets in the parking area, but none of them are working.

Apart from this, only 83 of the 130 lights are working. At the same time, none of the 235 fire points are working, the survey report says.

Under such circumstances, there can be an accident with children and women frequenting the area.

It may be recalled that the aim of this parking lot was to help reduce traffic pressure in the Walled City and subsequently help smoothen traffic and also maintain the heritage status of the Walled City area.

The road in these markets usually witness massive traffic jam during evening hours which also hamper the joy of shopping.

The court has saught reply from JDA on the matter.
