The farmers are an agitated lot as they are unhappy with the government’s purchasing strategy of the moong. If farmers are to be believed, the government announced the purchase of the moong, but stopped its online purchase in just two days. The achieving of target was stated as the reason behind the stopping of online purchase, but the farmers still have the Moong and they are waiting to sell it. The farmers of the district had been demanding the government procurement of the Moong for a long time.

On the demand, the farmers also spoke to the administrative officials and representatives of the government several times. Now, since the Code of Conduct has been introduced in the assembly elections, the registration for selling the Moong began on the next day of implementing the Code of Conduct. The support price on the purchase of Moong was declared as Rs. 6990 per quintal, on which the farmers expressed their happiness. But, this happiness of the farmers did not last for long as the registrations were closed in just two days.

Farmers are constantly organising meetings in this regard and they are formulating an upcoming strategy to pressurise the government in order to sell the Moong on support price. If farmer leaders are to be believed, they were misled in the name of purchasing of the Moong as it has not been clear yet how much purchase of Moong has been done, and what was the actual target of the government for the same. Farmers have also warned that they will soon carry out a big movement in this matter.

In this case, the Congress is also come in support of the farmers as it is a great chance for the Congress to target the government just before the upcoming assembly elections. According to the Congress leader Prithvi Pal Sandhu, the claims of the completion of government purchasing of Moong are being made, whereas the Moong is still kept stored in the houses of the farmers. The festival season is also just around the corner and in such a way, the farmers are facing problems constantly.
