A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in city’s Vidhyadhar Nagar stadium, a stone away from the memorial of late Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat where Modi did not turn up to pay tributes, the Congress leaders including AICC general secretary and Rajasthan incharge Avinash Pandey visited the place and paid offerings. The leaders have accused Modi of disrespecting Shekhawat by not paying tributes to him despite mentioning his name in the address.

“Shekhawat was a veteran leader respected across the BJP and Congress. We all remember and love him. It would be better that Modi who addressed a rally just stone away from the venue would have visited the place and pay tributes,” said Pandey. He said that Congress always respected Shekhawat and the memorial was constructed by the Gehlot government. Satyendra Raghav, Congress spokesperson also took a dig on Modi for skipping a visit to the memorial. “It is very unfortunate that Modi did not pay a visit to the memorial that was a stone away from the stadium where he addressed the rally. Today, the Congress leaders paid floral tributes to him,” he said.

With the visit, the Congress leaders tried to convey a message that both Modi or chief minister Vasundhara Raje cashed the legacy of Shekhawat by referring his name in the addresses but true respect to him was missing in the spirit.
