Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018: Congress cries foul over tech glitches, ‘rigging’

Congress has cried foul over malfunctioning of 400 EVM machines and lodged a complaint with the election authorities for redressal. The party has also forwarded complaints against ex-BJP minister Devi Singh Bhati and Tonk-Sawai Madhopur MP Sukhbeer Singh Jonpuria for booth capturing and creating an atmosphere of fear among the voters.

“We have received 400 complaints of slow pace of machines and malfunctioning of EVM in the control room which have been forwarded in written to the state election department. BJP leader Devi Singh Bhati captured booths from 1 to 40 number in Kolayat. He also assaulted Congress candidate and ransacked his vehicles. Tonk-Sawai Madhopur MP, who is not a voter in the area, toured villages in Tonk and captured booths. The party has registered written complaint against both of them,” said Congress spokesperson Satyendra Raghav.

The state election department has accepted slow functioning of EVM machine in the initial hours of polling due to mock polling but rejected any booth capturing. “As the polling started we did mock polling that delayed polling. The polling by large was peaceful except a few incidents that happened out of the booth premises. Where repoll will be ordered after the report of observers,” said Anand Kumar.

The CEO detailed that 0.48 percent ballot machines, 0.52 CU and 1.56 percent VVPAT machines were replaced during the mock polling. Also as the polling proceeded 0.31 percent ballot unit, 0.3 CU and 1.45 percent VVPAT machines were replaced by the new that possibly delayed the voting process. He also took cognizance the Congress complaint and instructed Tonk collector to take action against Tonk MP Sukhbeer Singh Jonpuria.

On the other hand, the PCC chief Sachin Pilot thanked the party workers for their toil. “Power of any party lies in its members. I express my gratitude for the hard work and persistence displayed by Congress workers over the past five years. I wish this affection between the party workers to be sustain. Congress party will remain indebted by the vote and support of people of Rajasthan. We will attempt to come true to the future expectations,” said Pilot at a press conference at the PCC headquarters.
