Former Union minister and Congress candidate from Nathdwara, CP Joshi’s remarks about the caste of prime minister Narendra Modi will now be an issue in the state Assembly elections as PM Modi mentioned the the controversey while addressing an election rally in Alwar district on Sunday. Accusing the Congress of indulging in caste politics, Modi said that it does not have any issue and that is why his (Modi) caste has become an electoral issue. The Congress leaders are always asking about my caste and are even abusing my mother. All this is happening at the behest of Naamdar (Rahul Gandhi).

The PM, while addressing the election rally of 11 Assembly constituencies of Alwar district at Vijay Nagar Maidan in Alwar attacked the Congress by referring to the controversial statement made by Congress leader CP Joshi. He said Congress has always indulged in caste politics and is not able to shun poison of casteism. There is casteism in the roots of Congress, he said. While describing the Congress leaders as Raj Darbaris, he asked the people which party has ruled the country for four generations. Significantly, a video of Congress leader CP Joshi had gone viral on social media where he made castists remarks against Uma Bharati, Sadhvi Ritumbhara and prime minister Narendra Modi.

Modi also targeted Congress over a recent video, which went viral, in which Congress candidate BD Kalla is seen stopping a supporter who was shouting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and then the supporter is seen shouting ‘Sonia Gandhi ki Jai’. “For us, the country is bigger than the party but Sonia Gandhi is bigger than Bharat Mata for them,” Modi said during the rally. Also present during the rally were chief minister Vasundhara Raje, party’s candidates from all 11 constituencies of Alwar and other leaders.

The PM while praising chief minister Vasundhara Raje said that she has done so many works in five years which the Congress failed to do in 55 years. The people of the state will once again choose the BJP, Modi said.

“The number of medical colleges that the Congress governments have opened in 50 years, the same number has been opened in 5 years of Vasundhara Raje government. You decide to wait for 50 years or wait for the Vasundhara government to complete the work in 5 years.” Modi added, when the Congress government was there, 12 km highways were built in one day, today about 27 km highways are built in one day and Raje has done work in Rajasthan with 4 times the speed.

He said that Congress party leaders were unable to debate on the agenda of development. “Congress government in the last 60 years could give 13 lakh LPG gas connections in the country but the Modi government gave 12 lakh LPG gas connections. We addressed one rank one pension issue which was kept pending by the Congress governments,” he said. Modi went on to add that there are claimants for the chief minister’s post in the Congress in every street and the entire party is confused on the issue.
