In its ninth list of candidates, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declared candidates on 25 seats including four constituencies of state capital Jaipur. Among the candidates declared on Saturday, its the candidates on Adarsh Nagar and Kishanpole constituency that pose a challenge for opposition Congress more than the ruling BJP in the state. The former is already under pressure of several minority organisations to provide population equivalent representation to the community in ticket allocation.

“We have extended tickets to party workers, irrespective of the communal background. We are a party with equal opportunities and uphold individual merits of candidates above all equations,” says a senior leader at AAP.

AAP, however, taking a lead in ticket distribution has already laid out the social equations at the Jaipur city. The party has posted minority candidates on 3 of the 10 assembly constituencies at city to minority candidates. Both Adarsh Nagar and Kishanpole constituencies have nearly 30-35% minority votes and also impact adjoining assembly constituency of Hawamahal on which to AAP has field a minority candidate. The Congress is though confidence to keep its vote bank intact.

“Just fielding candidates do not qualify a party for the communities votes. People need a change from the present government and will not waste their vote on AAP,” says Jaipur Congress president, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas. “People of all communities today stand united in support of Congress and this time, they’ll vote on issues and not communal grounds,” he adds.

Even as the Congress leader denies of community influence on ticket distribution, it remains very much in consideration of the parties. The ‘soft Hinduism’ stand of Congress has also drawn criticism from several ‘secular fronts’ and it is being speculated that the party may not extend tickets to as many minority candidates this time. Amid this arrival of AAP has added a third front to the equation at the state capital.

Meanwhile, spinning a full circle of social engineering at Jaipur, the AAP candidates also come to the concern of the ruling BJP at several seats. AAP candidates on seats of Civil Lines and Vidhyadhar Nagar are expected to garner votes from the traditionally BJP supporter communities of the area.

THE EQUATION

Both Adarsh Nagar and Kishanpole constituencies have nearly 30-35% minority votes and also impact adjoining assembly constituency of Hawamahal on which to AAP has field a minority candidate.
