For the ones who turned 18 this January and had got their names included in the voter list, it was a time of excitement of turning into a responsible adult who can vote for the first time in the Assembly elections.

Some were upset the politicians had not been talking about real challenges of the state and country but were talking about caste of individuals. “We need to focus on clean drinking water, our state does not have surface water, is dependent on digging borewells for water but our politicians are taking up non-issues. Their focus should have been on jobs,” said Pratibha a first time voter in Bapu Nagar area.

The moment they cast their votes, they were seen clicking selfie and posting it on social media under the hashtag #selfiewithink. “We want to celebrate the day, it makes me feel that I have become a responsible citizen,” said Seema, a first-time voter from Mahesh Nagar colony. “This (selfie) will encourage others and will also show that I have voted for the first time,” said Rashi a college student while speaking to DNA.
