The Barmer police conducted a major operation on Monday and confiscated nearly two and half thousand kilograms of poppy husk worth a whopping 1.25 crore rupees. The cops even arrested two men and recovered five cartridges and one pistol from the men. The police is now interrogating the men to learn about the source and delivery point for the husk.

A team of Barmer police had traveled to Kalyanpur in search and arrest of wanted criminals. “During the search, the police team learned from sources that a truck full of poppy husk would travel from Jodhpur to Balotra. A special team was thus formed which initiated barricading on the highway. Meanwhile, the special team of Barmer police found the said truck near Dhawa area and the team started trailing the truck and alerted the cops at the barricading. The men were then stopped at the barricading,” said Gagandeep Singla, SP Barmer.

When the cops questioned the men about the contents of their truck, the men informed they were carrying seeds,“ when checked, the bags appeared to be carrying cotton seeds. However, a few layers of these bags were removed which revealed that they were instead peddling poppy husk in the layers below. These were put in such a way that normal checking would not have revealed the poppy husk.

The duo were arrested who revealed that they had got the husk from Neemuch in MP and Choti Sadri area. They were given this truck near a lake and were asked to take the same to Sindhari. 117 bags of poppy husk were recovered with 2,457-kilogram poppy husk. The accused have been identified as Omaram and Subha Vishnoi, both residents of Feench in Luni,” said the SP.
