In his first election campaign after the model code of conduct came into force for Rajasthan Assembly elections, the Congress president Rahul Gandhi was found wooing voters reminding them UPA’s flagship schemes and accusing the Modi and Raje governments of their failure in farmers and unemployment issues. He made a scathing personal attack on PM Narendra Modi and CM Vasundhara Raje for shielding corrupts.

Addressing gatherings at many corners, the party president said that Modi had promised people that he wanted to become Chowkidar (guard) but he never clarified whom he wanted to guard. Now he is Chowkidar of Anil Ambani whom he favored fetching Rafale deal to overcome his debts of Rs 45000 crores, spoke Rahul in a rally at Maniya.

Rahul further alleged that Modi fetched illegal deals for business tycoons who are repaying him advertising him in the media. “Modi Ji appears on TV 24-hours, his posters can be seen everywhere. Nobody can appear on TV at free of cost, otherwise, everyone would have appeared on TV. It requires crores for marketing and PM’s marketing is done by the industrialists to whom PM is giving crores,” said Rahul addressing another corner rally at Bari assembly constituency of Dholpur, the home district of the CM Raje.

He once again alleged Modi of shielding Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya who fled the country after bankrupting the banks. He also accused Raje’s family of being involved in corruption. “Entire world knows Lalit Modi gave crores of rupees to the son of CM. He is sitting in London,” said Gandhi. Rahul, who has repeatedly accused the Narendra Modi government of failing to create jobs, wooed youths talking about stressing on local talents, “Your phones are all made in China. I want them to be made in Rajasthan, Dholpur or in Jaipur... I want people to realise where Dholpur is”.

Rahul said demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax, which he referred to as Gabbar Singh Tax, had destroyed India’s economy. “The UPA government had waived farmers’ loans worth Rs 70,000 crore. And the PM Modi had written off of Rs 3.5 lakh crore due on the industrialists but he did not help farmers with even a one rupee waiver. The former UPA government introduced several schemes and programmes for the poor, including MGNREGA. Here, the former Ashok Gehlot government had brought free medicines schemes but the BJP governments had weakened them and worked against the people,” he alleged. He said the Centre and state governments worked against people, small-scale business, farmers, women, and youngsters.
