Laxity at the Jaipur Hospital and Jaipur Municipal corporation took a life of a patient. The patient who was under treatment in the Jaipur Hospital was shifted to the SMS Hospital on Sunday night after the major fire outbreak in the hospital, where he died in the wee hours of Monday.
A 52-year-old Anil Sharma was a resident of ward no 24 in Chidawa of Jhunjhunu district and was admitted in Jaipur Hospital a few days back due to paralysis attack. He was under treatment in ICU of Jaipur Hospital and was one of the 50 patients shifted to SMS hospital after the fire outbreak on Sunday night. He was admitted firstly in medicine ward of SMS hospital from where considering his condition doctors shifted him to medical ICU. But despite of medical treatment, he died.
“The patient was brought in SMS and as per the protocol we admitted him in the ward from where he was shifted to the medical ICU. Doctors at SMS hospital attended him very well but he could not be saved,” Dr DS Meena, medical superintendent at SMS Hospital told DNA. Despite being mandatory, Jaipur Hospital did not have fire NOC from Jaipur Nagar Nigam. “Fire extinguishers were not in sufficient number at the hospital, even sprinkler system was not there to douse the fire. The hospital staff was trying but was unable to evacuate patients and it could be done only after ambulances arrived,” relative of patient Anil Sharma told DNA. Despite of several tries Jaipur Hospital owner, Dr Shailendra Sharma did not pick up the call from DNA.
During last few days several accidents of fire have occurred in Jaipur city. All reveal the lacunae at Nagar Nigam level as well. The height of the irresponsibility can be gauged through the fact that even SMS Hospital, does not have fire NOC from the JMC. When asked, an official of JMC said that the online application from SMS has been received and soon inspection will be done at the hospital.
