Ola cab driver murdered in Kota, passenger main suspect

Victim’s body was dumped in a farm, his car was recovered from temple parking

The body of a 23-year-old cab driver was on Thursday afternoon found dumped in a farm near Gopalpura village. The area falls under the jurisdiction of Deoli– Manji police station in Kota, some 25 kilometers from the city. 

Police are suspecting the passenger behind the murder of the driver as the cab was found abandoned near Shivpuridham temple premises in Thegra area which falls with the Udhyog Nagar police station, Kota city. The driver is believed to have been choked to death. There are also injury marks on the deceased’s head.  The accused is still at large. 

“The victim has been identified as Shahrukh Hussain, a cab driver affiliated to Ola.  He is a resident of Jagpura area of Kota city,” SHO at Deoli-Manji police station, Amarnath told DNA. The SHO said that strangulation seems to be the cause of death, but he seems to have been beaten up by the assailant, he added. 

The body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem by medical board. Police have lodged a case of murder against the accused who is yet to identified.

“Suspects have been rounded up and interrogation with them is underway, however no one has been arrested so far,” SP Kota (rural), Dr Rajiv Pachar said. The motive behind the murder of the driver could not be ascertained till reports last came in.

“Shivpuridham temple committee informed about an abandoned car parked outside the temple boundary wall since Wednesday. Police team reached the spot and recovered the car,” SHO at Udhyog Nagar police station Vijay Shankar Sharma said. 

“The number plate was missing and there were blood stains on seats and gates of the car,” he said, adding, “The car was later found to be owned by a person named Sonu, a resident of Anantpura area of the city, who had a contract with Ola cab service, the SHO said. The cab owner told that Shahrukh Hussain was driver of his cab and he had, on Tuesday afternoon, gone on a trip with a customer following an offline booking. 

Ola Drivers Stay Off Road

Ola drivers in Kota boycotted bookings and remained off road to press for their demand of quick arrest of the accused who remains at large. “The drivers affiliated with Ola services submitted a memorandum to administrative officials seeking a quick investigation into the case,” an official said, adding, “They also protested outside the morgue.”
