It is mid of December and till the beginning of the current week, people in the state were missing the winter feel, but now, after recent rains in several parts of the state a couple of days ago, humid easterly winds have now changed their direction and are presently blowing from the northerly or north-west direction. These winds are cold and dry in nature since they are coming from Western Himalayas which have just witnessed a fresh spell of snowfall.

Due to these northerly cold winds, night temperatures have dropped by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius and day temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in many parts of Rajasthan. In fact, day temperature is well settled 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal level in most parts of the state now. On Friday, Mt Abu, the only hill station in Rajasthan was the coldest place in the state with the minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius. In fact, Sikar, with a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius was the coldest place in plains across the country, followed by Churu at 4.2 degrees Celsius.

In other parts of the state, as per local MeT office report Bikaner recorded minimum temperature of 6.7 degrees Celsius followed by Bhilwara 6.8, Shri Ganganagar 8.2, Udaipur 8.5, Alwar 9.2, Jaipur 9.6, Jaisalmer 10.9 degrees Celsius. Day temperature too has dropped in the state and at most of the places, it has come below 20 degrees Celsius, which is around 2 to 4 degrees Celsius below the normal level.

According to weathermen, as now the current western disturbance has moved away eastwards and there will be a gap of four to five days before another Western Disturbance approaches. Weathermen at Skymet Weather expect a further drop in day and night temperatures as these winds will continue for at least next three to four days. There are also chances of cold wave conditions to occur in parts of Rajasthan during the coming days, wherein the minimums will be recorded below normal by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. Thus, all the places in Rajasthan will now experience colder days and night.
