More than 500 teams will compete over the next 15 days in the kho-kho and volleyball tournaments
Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports (independent charge) Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore inaugurated a mega sports meet at his parliamentary constituency Jaipur Rural on Sunday. Hoisting the game’s flag at the Navlakha stadium of Amber, Rathore declared the Jaipur Mahakhel 2018 open. More than 500 teams will compete over the next 15 days in the kho-kho and volleyball tournaments.
"Every nook and corner of our country is a powerhouse of talent. These young players of Jaipur Rural just reaffirmed my faith in India's youth. More power to them and more glory to India!" Rathore said on social media about his association with Jaipur Mahakhel.
The Jaipur Mahakhel, which entered its second edition, is an initiative of the Olympic medalist and Union minister to promote sports in his constituency. Last year, a constituency-level Kabaddi competition was held during Mahakhel.
In its previous edition, too, the Jaipur Mahakhel saw the participation of more than 5,000 local Kabaddi players. This year, the event is promoting two other games that help imbibe the spirit teamwork and physical exercise.
Matches under the event will be held at 102 grounds in 32 venues spread across eight assembly constituencies under Jaipur Rural. These games, played at the parliamentary constituency level, are a unique platform to promote health and nationalism by stressing on teamwork. Also, this event serves as a branding platform for the state government.
Many senior BJP leaders and local MLAs accompanied Rathore to witness the event. Speakers hailed the benefits of sports, saying it paves the way for a healthy lifestyle. Several events were held at the venue to entertain the crowd until the games were officially inaugurated.
FRIENDLY MATCH
In reflection of the 'friendly spirit' of the games, there was a friendly match between public representatives and media persons present at the inaugural ceremony. During the game, Rathore along with BJP general secretary Chandrashekhar and senior party leaders as well as local MLAs reverted the shots of the mediapersons. In a cliffhanger, the media persons won the match.
