Taking a tough stand against rape of a minor, a POCSO court in Bundi convicted a 35-year-old man to life term till his dying day for raping a seven-year-old girl in Jhabua village. The incident took place in Bundi district in an area falling under the Dabi police station. In addition to the life sentence, the court also imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the convict.

The Bundi POSCO court No. I judge Alka Bansal, on Thursday, held Bharulal Kalbeliya [35], a resident of Jhabua village under Dabi police station of Bundi district guilty of raping a 7-year-old minor who resides in the same village. The man was convicted under section 376 and sections of the POSCO Act and was sentenced to life term till his natural death, public prosecutor [PP] Bhunpendra Sahay Saxena, said. The court also levied a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the convict, he added.

The convict, a mining labourer, on January 15, 2016, raped the minor girl of his village and left her bleeding. A case of rape in this connection under section 376 of IPC and sections of POSCO Act was lodged against Bharulal in Dabi police station on the same day, the Public prosecutor said.

Bharulal was arrested following the crime and has been undergoing term in jail, he added. During the trial, statements of 14 witnesses were recorded and 22 documents were produced before the court, PP Saxena said.

The minor girl was found in a critically injured state and was bleeding profusely and underwent medical treatment in hospital for days, the prosecutor said, adding, the blood absorbed payjama of the minor girl, recovered from the spot, proved to be a strong evidence to bring the guilty to the book.

The conviction was signed by the honourable judge yesterday but could be pronounced today, he further said.  The verdict is similar to what was pronounced for self-styled Godman Asaram who was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of minor’s rape. He was also sentenced to life imprisonment till his natural death. Two aides of Asaram - Sanchita alias Shilpi and Sharad Chandra alias Sharat Chandra we’re also sentenced to twenty years imprisonment each, then.

The Verdict
