In its first session, the 15th legislative assembly of Rajasthan stepped in chaos on many occasions as members discussing the governor’s address stumbled upon the issue of previous government’s performance.

Voted to government in the state, the MLAs from Congress party missed upon no opportunity to claim shortcomings of the former BJP government, now in Opposition while the BJP members retaliated in their address and also in the Well of the House.

The Assembly session on its fourth day on Friday commenced with heated debate on issue of farm loan waiver and as debate commenced on the governor’s customary address, Speaker allotted nearly 16 hours among the members for discussion.

Among these the ruling Congress with maximum number of MLAs was granted nearly eight hours while the main Opposition party had been given time of around six hours.

The members, however, were seen drawn in confrontation over past issues and previous government’s performance. While the MLAs from Congress including Mahendra Malviya and Shakuntala Rawat took lead in opening offence against the former BJP government, the BJP MLAs continued to raise noise in protest.

A reverse of this was noticed when the BJP MLA Rajendra Rathore began to praise the former government’s achievements.

There was a continuous interruption from the Congress MLA and transport minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas. Rathore even sought for Speaker’s protection.

“I am a 6 feet 2 inches tall, helpless person seeking your protection,” Rathore requested to the Speaker with a touch of humour.

However, the House temperament was not so humorous throughout the day. There were several occasions when the ruling and opposition members entered upon heated conversation and ended using ‘non parliamentary’ language.

The Congress became victorious in recent assembly elections holds it as a rejection of BJP government’s policy by public.

This reflected in the governor’s address and as the ruling party MLAs continue to pull up the issue on every occasion this continues to add to chaos at assembly.
