A jail guard from the Jaipur Central Jail was found in possession of a few grams smack during a recent checking of guards.
While the jail authorities try to keep narcotics out of the jail premises and for the purpose conduct various sudden checkings in the barracks, a recent phenomena that came to light on Monday has brought to fore how the jail inmates might be getting access to narcotics and other substances.
A jail guard from the Jaipur Central Jail was found in possession of a few grams smack during a recent checking of guards. The guard has been now sent to judicial custody while an investigation in the matter is being conducted by the cops.
Identified as one Gopal Singh, the guard has been posted at the Jaipur Central Jail for the past several months. “It is a known fact that mobile phones and other items get smuggled in jails and when search operations are conducted, then such devices are found. However, recently there was information that narcotic substances might also be smuggled in the jail and thus we decided to increase the vigilance,” highly placed officials told DNA.
However, the authorities kept silent on the drive so that the lower staff does not get any knowledge of the drive as it was suspected that only through the staff’s involvement any smuggling can occur.
“An information had been received of involvement of jail staff in possession of banned narcotics. Based on the information, a sudden checking was conducted wherein all the officials were frisked and checked for possession.
During the same, guard Gopal Singh was found in possession of 2.90 grams of smack.
He was arrested and produced before the court which sent the man to judicial custody. We have registered a case and have initiated an investigation in the matter. During interrogation, he said that someone came and handed the smack to him. However, he has failed to reveal the identity of the said person. We also questioned as to who was to be given the smack, but he has not given any details about the same. We will continue to interrogate him to find the missing links in the story,” said Sanjay Sharma, station house officer - Moti Doongri police station and investigating officer in the matter.
