The schools and colleges re-opened on Monday after brief holidays of the festival of lights- Diwali. The rush returned to corridors in the schools and the classes were full on Monday with students busy exchanging wishes with fellow students and teachers on. Since early morning, school buses were seen on city roads while the honking school vans were also heard.

Many students took bicycles to go to schools. Now, the students of higher classes 10th and 12th will be preparing for pre-board examinations as in most of the schools, the pre-boards will begin in the last week of December, while other students will get busy with the unit tests which will also happen in December.

“The pre-boards will now be held in December in most of the schools and students who are appearing for boards get an opportunity to check their preparation,” said a senior teacher of a public school in Jaipur.

In most of the schools, this is the time when usually the annual days, functions and other celebrations are organised, so now the children will be busy preparing for these.

“It’s a tough Monday as after few days, going to school is tough for my kid,” said Vaishali, mother of a student. Since the mornings have become colder and therefore, the school children were a bit hesitant to get ready for going to school.

The students got a good break from studies during Diwali festival and usually are not given any holiday homework.

So they devoted all their time in bursting crackers and celebrating the festival. During the summer holidays of May, June month, the students are given holiday homework which keeps them occupied. However, Diwali breaks are of short duration and there was a festival to celebrate, therefore, children are usually free from holiday homework.

Before the Diwali breaks, the schools were closed during the Dussehra festival and now the schools will close only for winter breaks which in many schools is in last week of December, while in few schools, these days, winter vacation is scheduled in the first week of January.
