Jaipur Municipal Corporation councillor duped of Rs 2.25cr

While news of common man falling prey to carefully planned frauds while finalising land deals are common, a unique incident has been reported in the city wherein a sitting councillor of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has fallen victim to similar crime. The man paid a whopping Rs 2.25 crore for a piece of land and learned recently that the deal was fake as the same land had already been sold to another party. The man has registered a case in Sadar police station and the cops have initiated an investigation into the matter.

The victim councillor has been identified as Laxman Das Morani, councillor of ward number twenty-seven of JMC. “Laxman Das had been looking to purchase a piece of land and was consulting several people. 

While doing the same, he came in contact with one Hiralal Mali who showed him a plot and asked for a price of Rs 2.25 crores. After much consideration, the councillor decided to buy the land,” officials said.

After he decided to buy the land, he handed the money that was quoted to him by Mali. “However, when the man went to take possession of the said land, he found that the land could not be called his as the deal he did was fake.

The land had already been sold earlier to another party. The man then realised that he had fallen prey to a fraud and approached the cops. We have registered a case in the matter and initiated the investigation. More can be said when the investigation ends,” officials said.
