The road near Bad Ke Balaji at Kishanpole Bazar caved in during the excavation work going on for Smart City projects.

The officials immediately put mud sacks along the wall of the collapsed portion to avoid further shredding of the road. Even as no one was reported to be injured, traffic on the much busy road had to be diverted.

Officials of the Jaipur Smart City Limited were unavailable for comment on the incident, though residents already protesting the Smart City works were quick to respond.

“The Smart City project has become as a bane rather than a boon for the Walled City and its heritage. The officials have no plan and the recent incident too is a reflection of their negligence which has put public life in danger,” said an official of the Dharohar Bachao Samiti.

Even as JSCL officials assured the Smart City works to be held with keeping public safety utmost, the recent incident has added to the woes of locals, who are against the project. The laying of cobbled stone pathway and extension of pavements at Kishanpole Bazar under smart city work had previously triggered protest following which amendments were made in the design in accordance with the demand of local traders.
