In first such initiative of its kind, the Jaipur Declaration envisages adequate safety arrangements to help safeguard kids against different hazards and natural calamities.

The guideline lays down an exhaustive list of dos and don’ts for the administration to follow in case of electricity, fire and gas-related hazards. Similarly, it forces installation of ramps for kids with special needs and correcting feeble lighting to prevent instances of ragging.

The guidelines state, care should be taken at the playground to ensure that there are no physical hazards for children such as sharp edges, rusty rods, concrete floor, broken play equipment such as swings and slides, no thorny bushes, particularly at lower heights which adults may not notice but could cause injury to children.

The guidelines also direct the schools to ensure safety mechanisms are in place while organising sports event, annual function, drama and skit, street plays campaigns, excursions, picnics and study tours that involve kids’ participation.
