On 12th March, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police busted a gang involved in conducting cheating in Police Constable Recruitment Exam. In the days following this, more men were arrested who had devised various ways to bypass the technology and ultimately the entire exam was cancelled only to be held at a later date.

However, now the police department is gearing up to conduct the examination again in an offline format which was followed earlier. But instead of the recruitment of additional 15,000 constables, only 5,500 jobs are available.

“The department has only received sanction for 5,500 posts. Till now we have not received any information about recruiting more constables. If the order comes we shall act on it,” officials said, requesting anonymity.

Notably, while the examination conducted earlier was online, this time it will be conducted offline. “We will follow the old pattern of OMR sheets. However the security arrangements would be more stringent,” officials said, adding “We believe the permission to conduct examination for additional 15,000 constables would come however at present the matter is with the government.”

But giving permission for the recruitment exam is one thing and getting the same conducted, quiet another. “It is a long process which involved coordination at several levels. There is no clarity in the matter as of now but when the permission comes, the plans would be drawn,” officials said.
