While the cops are still agitating against salary issues, a constable posted with the Pratapgarh police allegedly  attempted to commit suicide by consuming an overdose of sleeping pills on Wednesday. In his ‘suicide note’ , the constable identified as Subhash Kumar, said that he was fed up with the ongoing salary issue and felt that the police was  getting step-motherly treatment.  The cop was posted in the office of Superintendent of Police (SP).

He had never complained about the issue to any senior officials. Notably, police officials claim that the man used to take sleeping pills after being recommended by the doctor and he had recently returned from a two-month long vacation for preparing for Sub-Inspector examination. The incident occurred late on Wednesday night when cops of the reserve police lines saw Subhash in a bad condition. “He was immediately rushed to the hospital where treatment was initiated and on Thursday morning he was discharged. He has been given a leave and sent to his native place,” officials said.

The man wrote an emotional note miffed over the salary issues and raised questions over the government’s thought behind cutting the salaries. “The government is doing injustice with the police and the orders for salary cut is being given because the cops cannot hold strikes. But the government should know that it is the police that provides protection to ministers, manages law and orders amongst other things,” the note read.

Highlighting the importance of khaki-clad men, the constable went on to ask his colleagues to go on a mass leave and hold strike so that the state government can understand the importance of police. The constable went further and asked the senior officials to support the demands of the agitators. The constable has raised a special request to the public also, asking the people to support the cops in this endeavour.
