Amid speculations that Central BJP leadership wants former CM Vasundhara Raje to contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections, she has given clear indications that she would not be doing so.

On her first trip to Jhalawar after being elevated to the post of national vice-president Raje, on Sunday, told a crowd of local residents that she is in Rajasthan to stay and would not leave them.

Raje is currently on a four-day tour to Jhalawar where she is meeting BJP workers and postholders. This hotted up speculations about her exploring electoral options for herself on the Jhalawar-Baran.

Raje is four time MLA from Jhalrapatan constituency, that falls under the Jhalawar-Baran seat, from where her son is third time MP. On the second day on Sunday she travelled across Jhalrapatan where she thanked people for their support.

While addressing a crowd in Jhalarapatan she said in no uncertain terms that she was in the state to stay, “I came to Rajasthan in a doli (bridal palaquein) and only my arthi (funeral bier) would go from here. I am not going anywhere.”

Raje’s statement is phrased to the understanding of the rural population and give out clear signals.

Addressing party workers at the district BJP office in Jhalawar, Raje told them to be ready for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and to ensure a win.

Raje’s son Dushyant Singh and close aide Shri Krishna Patidar were also present.

Immediately after BJP suffered electoral defeat Raje had started travelling across several districts and in political circles it was being seen as her move to consolidate her citadel.

This was much similar to Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s tours and statements like “tiger abhi zinda hai”. The elevation of the three former chief ministers to national vice-presidents was also being seen as central leadership’s move to create space in their respective states for new leadership.

Raje has been at the helm of BJP in Rajasthan since she was made state president in 2003.

However, over the last several years BJP circles have been rife with rumours about Raje’s strained relations with central leadership. Her latest statement once again adds fodder to the flames.
