The security measures at Rajasthan state Assembly on Monday came under a BIG Q  mark when BSP MLA from Sadulpur, Manoj Kumar Nyangali attended the House proceedings while carrying a revolver on his person. The legislator managed to cross the triple layered security of the Rajasthan Assembly and reached into the inner sanctum of the house. The revolver in a hostler at his waist remained undetected.

The fact that the BSP legislator from Sadulpur was carrying a gun came to light when the hostler protruding from under the slit in the left side of his kurta was captured on camera when he came out of the house to address media persons.

Nyangali immediately went home and left the revolver behind before he returned to take part in the assembly proceedings.

Elucidating on the rules of the house, senior BJP MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari tol DNA, “No person is allowed to take any form of weapon into the house. This includes everything from a licensed revolver to a stick. This is probably the first time ever that a legislator has breached security of the house.”

“Guards of MLAs can bring weapons, but for this they are issued special passes and they cannot move beyond the outer galleries,” said Tiwari.

“Respecting the democratic sanctity of the house khakhi is not permitted in the house. Police guards deployed in the house wear white. Even when the DGP attends the house, he cannot come in uniform, informed Tiwari to DNA.

On the other hand, clarifying on the issue Nyangali told media, “I always keep a licensed gun as I have been attacked several times. I often wear a bulletproof too. It slipped my notice that I was carrying a gun and went into the house with it.”

According to well placed sources in the assembly staff, “The biggest lapse has been at the second tier of the security ring. How the revolver manage to remain undetected by the metal detector is simply unexplained and unacceptable. It is a major lapse and puts the entire security under doubt.”

In a lighter vein, today’s incident can be termed as Nyangali’s attempt to make it to headlines; gone horribly wrong. The BSP legislator has wanted to be in news for the issues he raised in the assembly. He has managed to make it to headlines but not in the way he set out to do.

Why he keeps a gun

Manoj Nyangli was shot at in 2012 in Rajgarh town of Churu. A bullet hit him on the face near the right eye. This was three years after his brother Virendra Singh Nyangali was murdered in a similar attack in 2009. The attack was believed to be a fallout of the liquor mafia rivalry in Shekhawati region.
