When Ajmer and Alwar constituencies go to bypolls on January 29, it will be a 'referendum' for four ministers of the Raje government representing these seats. Education minister (independent charge), Vasudev Devnani and minister for women and child development, Anita Bhadel, represent Ajmer North and Ajmer South Assembly constituencies respectively. While Devnani has won three times consecutively, with no other strong contender for the ticket, if he fails to increase his vote share, his candidature would come under scrutiny ahead of general Assembly elections.

Similarly, Bhadel is still the face of the party from Ajmer South. However, her performance came under doubt when the BJP garnered less votes from the constituency during the mayoral election. The bypoll will be decisive for her candidature again.

In Alwar, the situation is very tricky for Labour minister Jaswant Singh Yadav, who represents Behor Assembly constituency. This time round, the party has bet on him him from Alwar. However, with this, the BJP may face another bypoll before Rajasthan Assembly election slated in the year end. As per rule, the seat has to be filled within six months from the day it falls vacant.

Meanwhile, GAD minister Hem Singh Bhadana is the second cabinet minister in the Raje government from Alwar who has been instructed by the party high command to get maximum votes from Thanagazi Assembly constituency. His main task is to consolidate Gurjars voters.

2013 MARGINS

  • Vasudev Devnani won by 17.2 per cent

  • Anita Bhadel led by 19.18 per cent

  • Jaswant Singh Yadav won by 13.04 per cent

  • Hem Singh Bhadana had a small 2.79% lead
