Financial health of roadways will be improved: Pratap S Khachariyawas

Transport minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas conducted his first review meeting with the Rajasthan Roadways on Wednesday. In the first meeting, the minister understood the working of the roadways as various departments of roadways gave presentation related to their working style in front of the minister. Sources informed that the finance officials of roadways apprised him about the current financial position of roadways and about the financial support which the roadways get from the state government. Sources further added that the amount is pending since last 2-3 months and officials informed this position to Khachariyawas.

The civil department officials informed about the civil activities being done at city’s Sindhi Camp bus stand. Currently, construction work is going on at the bus stand in the directions given by the previous BJP government which is different from the directions given by the previous Gehlot government. He was also informed about the number of roadways buses plying across the state. The minister was also informed by officials about the various legal cases pertaining to roadways. Sources informed that issues related to Lok Parivahan buses were also discussed in the meeting with the minister. After the lunch, Khachariyawas also met the union employees who apprised him about their various demands. After the meeting, Khachariyawas informed that financial health of the roadways will be improved and stress will be on improving the condition of this state-owned roadways. He said that the action will be taken on buses which are running without the permit.

In the last year of the previous government, roadways faced many challenges. While Lok Pravihan buses gave a challenge to the roadways, in 2017, JDA advertised for the auction of roadways land in the city, though no bidders turned up the financial position of roadways was always delicate. Demanding retirement benefits and other demands, roadways employees went on strike twice in 2018.

In the month of September,  it happened for the first time that the gates of Rajasthan Roadways head office remained locked. This happened because the staff and employees of roadways in the head office also extended its support to the roadways agitation and were on mass leave on the first day of their two-day mass leave decision.

It became an embarrassing position for the top management like the chairman, managing director, executive director etc that they were not able to enter the building as the doors were locked as the people whose job was to open the locks of the door were also on mass leave.

Current position

Sources informed that the finance officials of roadways apprised him about the current financial position of roadways and about the financial support which the roadways get from the state government. Sources further added that the amount is pending since last 2-3 months and officials informed this position to Khachariyawas.
