The lines between cricket and politics have been blurred in Rajasthan. With IPL once again back to the state, it was being hoped that action would stay contained to the cricket field. But the suspension of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) treasurer Pinkesh Jain has once again set in motion events that could snowball into a major political controversy with potential to harm ruling BJP.
An FIR has been lodged against Azad Singh Rathore and others for irregularities in running of Barmer Club, a club for cricket activities. This was immediately after Azad Singh reached Barmer to a rousing welcome on being elevated to post of RCA treasurer. With a possibility of an imminent arrest, Azad has gone underground and has taken to social media to challenge the action against him.

Action against Azad is also being portrayed as chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s ongoing tussle with Rajput community. Coming at a time when speculations are rife about Raje’s opposition preventing Gajendra Singh Shekhawat being elevated to post of BJP state chief. With Rajput community in Western Rajasthan making preparations to organise large scale functions on the death anniversary of slain gangster Anand Pal Singh on June 24; the logic is finding easy buyers.
But BJP faction is not willing to accept any involvement, “These are local actions taken at local level. Any insinuation to otherwise is incorrect,” said BJP spokesperson Anand Sharma.
