This may not look as glamorous, but a Rs 2-crore gold heist plot in Kota had an uncanny resemblance to SRK’s Don, where Badshah Khan had a huge blueprint and a rock solid plot to decamp with gold from a foreign bank.
The I-T department in Kota had conducted raids at various places between April 18 and 20. And the “quiet” and “unsuspecting” Ravindra Rajput alias Vikki (24) who is a contractual employee posted in the computer section was aware of the raids and the booty that was recovered by the I-T men as he had to enter the same on his office comp as vital data.
After an aborted attempt on Friday, Rajput tied up with friends Vikas Khateek alias Ravi (22) and Ashish Sameriya (23), all residents of Suket town.
More cautious and apprehensive this time, the trio on Saturday night broke into the assistant director’s (investigation) office of Income-Tax department on Rawatbhata road under Jawahar Nagar police station from the back door.
Rajput was armed with the office map and knew every part of the building. He probably had conducted a recce before plotting the heist.
The trio headed straight for the deputy director’s chamber on the second floor where they de-activated the CCTV cameras. Rajput then, with the help of his accomplices, broke open the locker and took out the keys to the safe where the sealed boxes of the seized gold jewellery were kept.
They decamped with gold worth Rs 2 crore. This was also corroborated by the I-T department’s complaint to the police.
To change the focus of the cops, the trio also tore apart the seizure documents, thus putting the “blame” on those on whom the raids were conducted.
But little did Rajput and his team know that they had left behind a trail and the cops were on a hot chase.
After the theft, the friends shared the booty and Rajput resumed duty.Meanwhile, the cops began their probe and discovered footprints near the back door and also got footage of 50 other CCTV cameras that were installed out side the building!They called in all the staff and among other queries, they also matched the footprints and Rajput was in the dock.The cops took him into custody and following a thorough probe, Rajput gave in.
