The Rajasthan High Court and State Women's Commission on Wednesday took cognizance of the incident in which a newborn died as two doctors bickered during surgery at Umaid Hospital in Jodhpur and initiated an inquiry into the matter. The state Human Rights Commission also took suo motu cognizance of the case and sought an explanation for registering an immediate criminal case.

A bench of Justice Gopal Krishna Vyas and Justice Manoj Garg summoned Jodhpur district collector Ravi Surpur and directed him to submit the inquiry report within a week. Two magistrates of the high court legal services authority, namely deputy secretary Dhiraj Sharma and Ratan Ojha along with additional advocate general Shiv Kumar Vyas visited Umaid Hospital to probe the matter and filed the report in afternoon.

The state Human Rights Commission ordered the principal of the medical college and the principal secretary of the medical department to present a complete report of actions taken by the college and the government in each such an incident occurred so far. The report is to be presented by September 26. Suman Sharma, chairman of Rajasthan State Women's Commission (RSWC) also directed a probe into the matter.

Suman Porwal, a member of RSWC, recorded statements from the family members of the patient.

Meanwhile, action has been taken against two doctors who allegedly indulged in the verbal spat — one doctor was terminated from his position, while other one suspended from duties.

"Dr Ashok Nainival, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynaecology and Dr Mathura Lal Tak, professor of anaesthesia were removed from the hospital with immediate effect," Kalicharan Saraf, state health minister said.

A committee has been formed comprising additional district collector of Jodhpur Mana Ram Patel, senior professor and additional principal of SN Medical College Dr Rita Meena and Umaid Hospital superintendent Dr Ranjana Desai. "The committee will submit its report with recommendations to state government after completing the probe in three days," the medical education department said.

A video clip that went viral showed the two doctors having a verbal spat in the operation theater while the C-Section of a patient named Naseem Bano was in progress. Nasim was brought in a critical condition to the hospital and was immediately shifted to the operation theater. In another incident, the doctors were found bickering while operating on a patient named Anita, whose baby had passed away in the womb.
