Taking a major step in ensuring that the cops conducting traffic duty are always vigilant and follow the law in taking action against offenders, the Director General of Police Kapil Garg initiated the vigilance department into conducting decoy operations in the Jaipur Commissionerate range. Several teams were formed for the purpose monitored by the Police Head Quarter (PHQ) and the teams found slackness in carrying out the duty by two constables. The matter was reported to the DGP following which the two constables have been suspended while the DGP has issued an award to one constable for carrying out his duties properly and also informing the people of traffic safety.

The order to carry out decoy operation was conducted after the DGP took a cognizance over the increasing incidences of complaints received against traffic police. The DGP then directed Additional Director General (Vigilance), Govind Gupta, to take action in the matter.“The ADG formed five groups of officers of the vigilance wing of PHQ and sent the groups to various areas of Jaipur city on the evening of January 11. The groups closely monitored the behaviour of traffic cops with civilians and if they take legal action against offenders or not. During the decoy operation, one group moved around the city on two-wheelers without helmets and passed the Sanganer, JLN Marg, Tonk Road, Mansarovar, Gopalpura Bypass, Delhi bypass, Jhotwara, Vaishali Nagar and Jhotwara areas among other places.

While crossing the Lata Circle area at Jhotwara, one group was stopped by traffic constable Ratan Singh, however, instead of taking legal action against the offenders, the constable took Rs100 from them and let them go. Similarly, at Triveni Nagar chauraha, head constable Ramavtar stopped two groups at different times for not wearing a helmet. However, the man took Rs 200 each from both the groups and let them go. When the matter was reported back to the Vigilance team and DGP, instructions were immediately given to the Jaipur Police Commissioner to suspend the duo and take departmental action against them,” officials said.

Meanwhile, the DGP has even directed that one traffic cop be rewarded for taking effective action as found during decoy operation. “The decoy group found that head constable Kishan Lal, posted at the Jharkhand Tiraha traffic point, had stopped the group that wasn’t wearing a helmet and informed them of the importance of observing traffic rules and traffic safety,” officials said.
