An old case of land dispute has come back haunting Pushpendra Bharadwaj, Congress candidate from Sanganer constituency just few days before elections. On Monday, a resident of Sikar, Shriram Sharma, held press conference in Jaipur in which accused Pushpendra of being involved in the forgery and concealing facts regarding the case.

“I am scared that if elected to assembly, the accused will use his position to influence the investigation and threaten us. I am a grade four government employee and may not be able to stand against him,” said Sharma.

The issue is related to a 100 square yard plot at Vidhyadhar Nagar that the complainant claims to have purchased in 1995. Nearly two decades later he discovered the plot has been occupied by the owners of neighbouring plot and thereafter registered a case in 2014.

The case remains under jurisdiction of ACJM court in Jaipur and a hearing in the matter was held on Monday.

“The investigation officer in his report submitted at court today has sustained charges of forgery on a relative of the politician,” said advocate Sunil Vashisth.

According to the petitioner, the politician too had been involved in the process and his role is under investigation. He further alleged that Pushpendra has concealed the facts from party and not highlighted them in bold letter while filing nomination.

The Congress candidate was not available for the comment but his supporters refuted the charges to be politically motivated. However, he is not the only candidate to face legal challenges ahead of the elections. The Bajaj Nagar police station on Monday registered an FIR against a sitting MLA on charges of molestation.
