A chip of the old block, Manvendra Singh, BJP legislator from Sheo in Barmer left little to imagination while taking on his parent party at a Swabhiman rally held in Barmer on Saturday. Though the talks of the MLA’s resignation were all over the place, the BJP denied of having received any official information on its part and even made it clear that the party will try to convince Manvendra to  reconsider his decision if he at all has made up his mind to part ways.

Speaking to DNA, state BJP president Madan Lal Saini said “I have not received any information about his resignation yet. Such reports are coming through the media. Manvendra is our party worker. We will talk to him and persuade him to remain with the party.” Manvendra’s decision is a big jolt to the party that has found itself on the wrong side of the Rajput community throughout the tenure of  the Raje government. Rajput organisations and their community leaders attended the Swabhiman rally held in Pachpadra, Barmer, on Saturday. Their presence at the venue which was used as a platform to vent anger against the BJP and its government in state is being seen as the community throwing its weight behind Sheo MLA Manvendra Singh.

Taking a cue, the party in a swift decision, removed its district unit president Jalam Singh Ravlot from the post with immediate effect. His replacement was subsequently announced what is being considered a move to pacify Manvendra. Ravlot is known baiter of the Jasol family members and was known for his stand political rivalry with Manvendra. Sources said that he was looking to contest the same seat as Manvendra’s. “Ravlot and the Sheo legislator could    not see eye to eye,” a party official said. The rally included leaders of other communities who participated in the day-long event. The idea, according to  Manvendra’s aides, is to send a message to the voters that the entire Marwar (the western belt) has been humiliated by the BJP and its government in the state. “Their presence endorses our feelings that Marwar is not going with the party this election,” a Manvendra’s aide told DNA.

Manvendra himself said that his family, including his father Jaswant Singh Jasol, has always worked to keep the pride of Marwar intact.

“Manvendra has been in touch with the different communities and they agree that the state government has worked against the interests of the people in this region,” a local party official said.
