The list of voters for the Ajmer and Alwar parliamentary bypolls as well as the Mandalgarh assembly by-election is finally out.

According the Rajasthan’s Chief Election Officer (CEO) on Thursday, there will be 42 candidates in the fray for the Ajmer, Alwar and Mandalgarh by-elections.

Almost 3.8 lakh new voters, mostly youth, who have been registered in the electoral list in the three seats, hold the key. These voters are crucial as they can swing the votes in favour of any candidate.  These bypolls are considered by experts to be the semi-finals ahead of the assembly election slated to be held around the year-end.

In Alwar, there are 18,27,936 registered voters. Of these, 9,16,704 and 8,56,944 are males and females respectively. Ajmer constituency has 18,42,992 voters including 9,41,238 males and 8,99,397 females. The only assembly constituency, Mandalgarh comprises 1,17,645 male and 1,13,567 female voters, making the total tally of eligible voters to 2,31,240. Of these, 93 are third gender voters in all three seats.

Polling for these seats will be held on January 29 and counting will take place on February 1. After the last date of withdrawal, 42 candidates remain in the fray. The highest number of candidates (23), are in Ajmer, followed by Alwar with 11 and Mandalgarh with eight. For Ajmer, the election commission has to install additional EVM machines at 1,907 polling booths because the number of candidates exceeds 16.

The district administration here has started arranging additional resources for conducting the polls smoothly. Along with Electronic Voting Machines, the Commission has decided touse Electronic Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) at the polling stations for bypolls. To ensure free and fair polling, the election office has instructed subordinate officials to set up cameras at critical poll booths for live web casting.

Among the total voters, over 11,000 are service voters who will cast their votes via electronically transmitted postal ballots system (ETPBS). This is the first time that the ETBPS is being used in the Lok Sabha election.
