Baba Ramdev on Wednesday travelled from the state capital to the national capital, albeit with a scheduled stop at Alwar. Leaders from the state clamored to be seen with him and get his blessings. This speaks of the Baba’s privileged position with the BJP powers that be. It also shows how vital his opinion would be while considering the BJP candidate for Alwar bypoll. This once again raises fresh speculations that leaders close to him have managed to stay put, despite their opposition to chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
NPP stalwart Dr Kirorilal Meena; well known for his verbose opposition to chief minister Vasundhara Raje, travelled with Ramdev to Alwar. On display was a comfortable relationship between the two. “We travelled together and spoke about many issues including corruption, black money and farmers suicide. I asked him to put in word about the plight of the farmers to the Prime Minister,” said Meena.
When asked about what political conversation took place between the two, he said, “I do not need lobby for myself. My standing has been proved over years. Those who want associated will be in touch,” said Meena. There has been serious talk about Meena joining BJP. However Meena’s intent was clear when he spoke on the stage at a programme in Alwar in the presence of Baba Ramdev and labour minister Jaswant Yadav, “this is Jaswant Yadav, a minister. Give him your blessings and me too. We are both political persons.”
There is also talk about another disgruntled stalwart of BJP; Ghanshyam Tiwari; not facing disciplinary action due to his close ties with Ramdev. It is widely debated in the political circles that Tiwari has managed to put his stand across to the central leadership, not just through himself or the RSS, but also through Ramdev. This is believed to be the reason he has survived the phased vitriolic response he gave to the disciplinary notice issued by the party.
