Strife within the state Congress was clearly visible at Vasundhara Raje’s home turf in Kota on Monday when AICC general secretary and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot skipped one of the party’s pet programmes, ‘Mera Booth-Mera Gaurav’ (My Booth-My Pride or MBMP), a mass contact plan to connect the party to its grassroots workers.

Present on the occasion were senior party leaders including RPCC chief Sachin Pilot, AICC general secretaries - CP Joshi and Avinash Pandey, leader of the opposition Rameshwar Dudi, deputy leader Ramesh Meena, state Youth Congress chief Ashok Chandana and Girija Vyas. According to sources, Gehlot was scheduled to attend the programme but he changed his plans. This was because he had to attend  the National launch of ‘Save The Constitution Campaign’ by AICC’s SC Department at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi where Congress President Rahul Gandhi addressed party workers. Meanwhile, Pilot along with senior party leaders kick-started the MBMP programme from Ummad stadium in Kota. After winning the Ajmer, Mandalgarh and Alwar bypolls, the Congress has decided to establish a system of communication with its workers before the upcoming assembly election.

While slamming the ruling BJP, Pilot alleged that the BJP government at the Centre and state failed on every front as none of the promises made before assuming power had been fulfilled.Pilot assured his party workers that the Congress is set to come back to power in the election slated to be held after seven months in the state.  “The Congress is set to come to power in the next election in the state and Congress rule would be the rule of every party worker,” Pilot assured the workers and slammed top BJP leaders for not being able to respond to the challenges and questions raised by Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP has cheated the people as well as farmers and its chief minister and ministers are turning their faces away from the harsh realities, he said, adding that farmers are forced to commit suicide but no effective measure has been put in place so far to check such tragedies with farmers.

Pilot also urged Congress booth workers to ensure that the party does well in every booth.  He also alleged that BJP added fake voters’ names to get votes in their favour and appealed to booth party workers to scuttle the attempts of these miscreants.

On BJP’s delay in announcing the name of its chief, Pilot said nobody wants to be the BJP state chief as none of the party’s leaders is ready to be scapegoat.
