Another haul: Gold worth Rs 12 lakh seized at Jaipur Airport

The accused is said to have come from private airlines from Bangkok on Tuesday late night and is said to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

The incidents of gold smuggling from Bangkok are now being reported at Jaipur airport as in yet another case, customs officials nabbed a person who was carrying 400 gms of gold from Bangkok to Jaipur. The accused is said to have come from private airlines from Bangkok on Tuesday late night and is said to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. 

The gold was hidden in a garland and the behaviour of accused raised suspicion among the customs officials who stopped him and scanned his baggage. 400 gms of gold was found in his possession, informed the sources. The value of seized gold is said to be around Rs12 lakh and the customs officials are investigating the case

This is not the first case of smuggling gold from Bangkok. Just two back only, two passengers coming from Bangkok were found to be smuggling 2kgs of gold at Jaipur airport. They had coated gold with black paint to hide it but it could not remain hidden from the eyes of customs officials present at the airport. 

Before that, in the month of August too, the officials seized 1.6 kg of gold from 4 passengers who had come from a flight from Bangkok to Jaipur. Sources informed all these passengers were residents of Gujarat. These accused were bringing the gold in the form of bangles, chains, and watch.

In recent years, many cases of gold smuggling from Jaipur airport have been revealed. As per a data issued by the ministry of civil aviation, 4 cases were registered of gold smuggling at Jaipur airport till June 2018.
