Senior advocate and amicus curiae Anupam Gupta told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that nine rape incidents took place in Murthal during the Jat agitation in Haryana last year.

In the resumed hearing of the case before the division bench of Justices Ajay Kumar Mittal and Amit Rawal, Gupta, who is assisting the court as amicus curiae, reiterated that former DGP of Haryana KP Singh had admitted that women were allegedly raped during the agitation.

He told the court that senior IAS officer and ACS Vijay Vardhan had told him that nine rapes took place during the agitation, and this was told to him by former Haryana DGP K P Singh.

The exchange of information had taken place place before the submission of the Parkash Singh Committee report last year.

The one-member committee was formed to probe the allegations of rape, and Singh was assisted by IAS officer Vijai Vardhan and IPS officer KP Singh.

However, Vardhan had later denied making any such statements. Gupta, on the other hand, had said that it could be verified from the call record details and Vardhan was allegedly pulled up by the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Gupta had earlier been criticizing the SIT for its shoddy investigation and had demanded a CBI investigation into the case.

The High Court had taken a suo motu cognisance of a media report alleging that women were gang-raped when the mob ran amok in Murthal during the Jat stir.

In its last hearing on August 17, the court had given a month's time to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations of rape in Murthal during the 2016 quota agitation by Jats.
